Browns Getting Desperate for Fraley?

Posted by Derek

Based on the referral pages for people coming to this little blog, there seems to be a great deal of interest in Hank Fraley trade rumors.  I live to serve, so here's an interesting update to the Cleveland Browns' ongoing drama at the center position (courtesy of the Inquirer - scroll down):

Browns. Alonzo Ephraim, an emergency signing at center after LeCharles Bentley went down with a season-ending knee injury, was suspended for Cleveland's first four regular-season games for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy.

The league said Ephraim, 25, may continue to participate in all preseason games, practices and games. He will be eligible to rejoin the active roster on Oct. 2.

Ephraim played the 2003 and 2004 seasons for the Eagles and started three games for the Miami Dolphins last season. For him to be suspended, this would have to be his second violation of the policy. The league did not disclose when he failed the first test.

Ephraim became the starter when Bob Hallen, Bentley's backup, retired last Thursday.

Like I've said before, I'm not that keen on us hollowing out our O-line depth, but if there's a team desperate enough to make it worth our while this year then we have to jump at the chance.
