Backfill

Sorry, I realize now that something about that last post may not have been entirely clear.  That's the problem with blogging first drafts.

Anyway, if I were running the team, my top priority this offseason would be bringing in the types of free agent weapons who would let Donovan be Donovan.  Then we ride with him for a couple more years and try to win a Super Bowl.

However, if you're not going to do that and you truly think the receivers are fine and you just want to patch around the edges, then I think maybe it's time to move on.

Keeping McNabb and not changing the team would pretty much be your worst-case scenario.

Makes sense, I'd like to see if there were any stats to backup the idea that the defense plays better when someone else is QBing instead of #5. They gave up 24 points on Sunday but that was against, what is perhaps the greatest offense in history.

As far as the receivers go, I think you could add one big dominate receiver and things would work out. I think Brown is a perfect #2 and Curtis is a poor mans Wes Welker.

i don't think there's any danger of that happening, unfortunately. right or wrong, the anti-mcnabb crowd is riled up, vocal, and being egged on by the morning idiot crew on wip. i fear that mcnabb is all but done in philadelphia.

Not sure how or if this fits in at all, but one thing I've noticed both with Garcia and Feeley is that Andy seems to get "mad" at them and he shows it.

Remember the first play after the on-sides kick when Feeley dropped back and slipped... the camera flashed to Reid who was motioning for Feeley to calm down.

He used to do the same thing with Garcia when he got all fired up.

McNabb is so mellow and "calm" that perhaps Reid never has a need to calm him down.

But maybe that's exactly what our team needs? Have you ever seen an offensive player who just committed a penalty walk back to Brady's or Manning's huddle with their head down? Ever see that happen with a McNabb huddle?

The other trend with the McNabb Eagles I've noticed -- to my complete frustration -- is that we never know which team will show up. They play very inconsistently. Andy Reid is surely to blame as he's the coach, but I also can't help wondering how much may be due McNabb and his demeanor as leader.

Maybe I do see what I "want" to see, but I feel like what I've been seeing McNabb's (and for that matter Reid's) entire career is the Eagles finding themselves in 3 and long, settling for field goals, and poor clock management with 5 or less minutes left in big games where we trail by one possession.

I think the Eagles have a great team on both sides of the ball. As we saw Sunday, we can hang with anybody, ANYBODY!

We need a QB who can make us work like we worked on Sunday. I have not seen that from McNabb in the past 2 years, whereas I have seen it from two backups. Something's gotta give.

>> poor clock management with 5 or less minutes left in big games where we trail by one possession.

Should be poor "game" management, not necessarily clock management.

You're dead right that a FUNDAMENTAL decision has to be made, and once made, all resources have to be poured into its execution.

And that decision is whether to upgrade THIS team, or

BLOW UP this team, and begin building for the future Eagle team, which is intended to make a run for the NFC Championship and Super Bowl.

AND everything, McNabb's fate, Westbrook's fate, the receivers, Dawkins, everything flows from which decision you make.

And MEANGUY, you're wrong. McNabb is staying. Reid will try to upgrade. Don't you recall that man-hug Reid gave McNabb in Washington. Does that strike you as the act of a coach who already knows McNabb is history.

McNabb will stay.

The controversy will continue, but deepen and intensify, and take on increased bitterness.

And the rest of the NFC East will just love watching this city tear itself apart over the subpar performance of McNabb.
