Dawk Covers Kickoffs AND Builds Playgrounds

Posted by Derek

Ok, actually, he didn't choose the playground option, but Brian Dawkins is still a good guy.

A few weeks back, a PR rep from The Home Depot emailed to say that the company had named Dawkins one of 17 NFL Neighborhood MVPs for his commitment to giving back to the Philadelphia community.  I said I'd put something up to help publicize his award, but then things got a little grumpy in Iggles Land and it just didn't seem like the right time.

So, to assuage my guilt for not following through with a PR rep (something you should never, ever do), I'm going to post the info now, as well as mention The Home Depot as many times as possible.  I'll even call it The Home Depot, which seems kind of the stupid to the me, but the karma being what it is, what can you do?

Here's the background:

The Home Depot NFL Neighborhood MVP program is a national partnership between The Home Depot and the NFL designed to recognize NFL players who are making a positive impact in their local communities through charitable programs and contributions.  This program demonstrates that commitment by improving fields and building play spaces in local communities across the country.

The NFL players will work alongside store associates from The Home Depot (lucky them) and other community volunteers at a field refurbishment or playground build project in their local markets.

At the end of the season, one of the 17 players will be named The Home Depot NFL Neighborhood MVP of the Year and will be honored with a $25,000 donation to the charity of his choice. The MVP will be selected through a national consumer voting contest and by a Blue Ribbon Panel of judges. Fans can log on to www.homedepot.com/NFL and cast their votes for the most deserving player starting Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 22.

According to The Home Depot rep, Dawk chose to help refurbish the football field at the Roxborough YMCA. Of course, given that Dawk got hurt the week after he helped out on this project, he may want to think about going a little easier in his off days...
