McNabb Not Backing Down
Yowzers, this whole Reid/McNabb thing is heating up a bit.
You may recall a few weeks ago when McNabb said this about the offseason:
"I think this is going to be an important offseason for us," McNabb said. "No matter how you look at it, it's got to be an important offseason. We have to focus on a lot of different things, obviously bring pieces in to help us out next year and the years to come. And for the guys that are here, to elevate our games to be ready to go..."
As for what he meant by the phrase, "important offseason," McNabb refused to be any more specific than "just kind of bringing more weapons on both sides of the ball, and special teams." And that came in response to a direct question about the wide receiver position.
The coach then immediately pooh-poohed all that "weapons" talk, even throwing in a shot at McNabb in the process:
On McNabb's comments that the team could use an impact free agent: "I haven't heard Donovan talk about that, so I'm not answering it. I know, as players, you have to be careful about saying that because those are your teammates that are being replaced. Most players don't get into that who really care about their teammates on the other side." [emphasis added]
Maybe so, but in a post just published on his blog, McNabb shows he's not backing down (and good for him):
I'm surprised that anyone would have a problem with me, or anyone else in the organization, expressing a desire to bring in more quality players. We were 8-8. There is room for improvement. This is a competitive sport. It's about putting together the best players, the best team, and giving yourself the best chance to win.
We didn't disrespect anyone when we traded for Takeo Spikes or signed Kevin Curtis last year. I don't think the Patriots were being disrespectful to Troy Brown or Reche Caldwell when they brought in Moss, Stallworth and Welker. Over the past few years, when the 49ers added Nate Clements, the Seahawks added Julian Peterson, the Giants added Plaxico Burress, the Colts added Adam Vinatieri, it was in an effort to add playmakers. In each case the team identified a way to improve and they took action.
I don't think that's being disrespectful to any of my teammates. It's certainly not my intention. I bet that anyone who wants to see the Eagles win – from Mr. Lurie, to the entire locker room, to every Eagles fan who bleeds green would agree.

Nice. I love it. I'm glad #5 isn't backing down from his position that the FO needs to bring in some more firepower. AR sees his team through rose colored glasses. He always has to the detriment of this team. McNabb, painted as a company man by an unnamed scumbag WR, has finally stepped out from under AR's sizable shadow and realizes that this may be his last year in Philly anyhow, so why bother going out without a fight. Good job Donovan. Hopefully AR does the right thing and gets this guy a true #1 wideout. If not, I'm looking forward to the day when AR gets shitcanned after another 5-11 season with Kevin Kolb under center. Actually, not really "looking forward" to that. I just see that as inevitable.
