Don't Get Excited About Crumpler

Posted by Derek

The Atlanta Falcons today released Alge Crumpler, the tight end best known to Eagles fans for being on the receiving end of one hellacious Brian Dawkins hit during the 2004 NFC Championship Game.

What's that you say?  Another excuse to post the Weapon X video?  Would hate to disappoint the fans:

Given the Eagles' need for some skill position help, you might be asking yourself, "Alge Crumpler?  Isn't he, like, pretty good?"

Yeah ... not so much.  I'll grant you the four Pro Bowls, but his stats weren't that good, even though he played for years with a guy who had trouble completing anything to the outside, and as for consistency, we'll let Dr. Z tell it like it is:

I'm glad the Pro Bowl pickers finally have wised up to Alge Crumpler, who drops as many as he catches.

The only good thing is that cutting him will mean some other team will spend money on him that could instead have gone to a player the Eagles were actually targeting.
