A Defensive Tackle?
Eagles select Trevor Laws from Notre Dame.
Um, don't we have two first-round draft choices at that position already?
BIOGRAPHY: Three-year starter who led Notre Dame in tackles as a senior posting 112/8/8. Set the single-season record for tackles by a defensive lineman at the school. Junior-year totals included 62/9.5/3.5.
POSITIVES: High-effort, penetrating tackle with an outstanding head for the game. Competitive, goes non-stop, and hustles about the field. Plays with good pad level, slides off blocks laterally, and makes plays everywhere on the field. Disciplined and stays with assignments.
NEGATIVES: Lacks bulk and engulfed at the point by blockers. Marginal quickness.
ANALYSIS: Laws is a competitive defender with limited size and growth potential. Productive on the college level, he could find a home as a three-technique lineman in the NFL.
PROJECTION: Middle Second Round
And the video:
A "tweener" who could play either DE or DT. Kind of like a Darren Howard type except hopefully much more effective.

It is a little surprising, but DT is a huge need right now. after Bunkley and Patterson there is nothing. Montae Reagor, Lajuan Ramsey, and Kimo von Oelhoffen gave you nothing. Now the team has 3 good DTs they can rotate. Ramsey and Reagor can battle it out for the 4th spot.
Laws is basically a Mike Patterson clone. He is not huge, and has a great ability to penetrate in the backfield and make plays. He is a little taller than Patterson, and has very long arms which you look for in a DT. He is a tough kid who never stops playing hard.
I think this pick will really help the starters out, because he will help lighten their load, and they wont tire out in the 4th quarter like they did so often last year.
