Andy Reid Throws Down the Gauntlet
Lost in the Litomania and incessant parsing of Donovan's every word, shrug and facial expression was this weekend statement by Andy Reid:
On whether he feels like he's loaded up and ready to win a championship: "That's how I feel. I'm not going to get into much more than that. I think with the players I have in the room, that we are ready to compete for a championship. It's that simple."
I'm trying to remember, has Reid ever said anything like that before? He's generally a lot more noncommittal with his "we just need to make plays" and "we'll have to see about that there" press conference type deals.

I think the big man's more motivated this year. I think, as much as we don't want to admit it, last year was a struggle of distractions. There's going to be a controversy every year, and if it's "We have 3 of the best corners in the league"... I'll take it!
We're dealing with a guy who's biological clock (the baby being McNabb's career) is ticking away. He's starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel closing and finally there's some urgency and passion out of him-- and that's what's been missing.
(sorry about the mixed metaphors)

My buddy and I were talking today and we both agree that if injuries don't become a big issue than JJ can field a top five defense. Couple that with a healthy McNabb, a return game that should improve (can't be worse than it was in '07) and the return of some playmakers (L.J. for one) and the addition of others (Jackson, Booker) and I've definitely come around about this team's chances next year. GO BIRDS.
