Friday Round-Up
Quick hits for today:
This will put a smile on your face. Cowboys' safety Roy Williams admits he sometimes hopes people don't throw the ball his way:
"I will admit that at times, when I had one-on-one situations and you're head up on a tight end or a receiver that can go left or right, it's tough," he said. "I mean, it's just tough. Sometimes you just hope they don't throw the ball your way, because sometimes you're like, if they go inside, you don't have any help; if they go outside, you don't have any help.
"That's why corners get paid the big bucks."
Read the rest too, especially the part where Williams blames not making any more big hits on God. I guess the Big Fellow is ok with dirty, illegal tackles from behind, though.
If the Eagles trade Lito Sheppard for something other than veteran wide receiver help, it will cost them a game next season. It might be the opener, it could be week five against Washington, or it could be the Super Bowl, but it's going to happen.
I don't really understand why everyone is so high on Joselio Hanson. He's certainly ok out there, but he's mismatched against guys who are either taller or faster than him -- a description that describes most of the league's wideouts. If he's that good, how is it that he's played 45 games in three years without a single interception?
I don't care how unhappy Lito is. Trading him this year without getting immediate help would be a big mistake.
Ugh, this made me sick. On a local and much less cosmic level, this is going to be a great way to describe the Eagles of the '00s if they can't get over the hump the next two years. Critically acclaimed indeed.
Since I haven't said anything about the schedule yet. December could be brutal. Also, the Chad Johnson trade needs to happen just so November 16th can be a Really Big Deal.
This is unconvincing. There's a pretty big difference between Patterson, Brown, Herremans and Cole all winning starting spots by the end of their first seasons and a bunch of guys who maybe chipped in on those special teams everyone now realizes were so crappy. Sum total of the contributions for last year's draft picks? I count 14 rushing yards (on 13 attempts), 2 TDs, 16 receptions (all Celek), 25 tackles and 1 INT.
At least you all can get off my back about carrying the team's water for awhile. Someone else is on the job.
Is 100 balls a day really a lot? I guess if he's running routes and all, but they mention he uses the machines too. Not sure that's much to brag about.
Here's the Jones/Mendenhall article I mentioned the other day. One nice thing about not having any sources is that I don't have to worry about keeping them happy. Here's the relevant part:
I would've gone with the guy who is bigger, a shade faster, just as quick and catches the ball just as well, although he doesn't return kicks. The Cowboys could build their offense around him if Marion Barber were ever unavailable.
You can't do that with Jones.
Jerry must have agreed with my hypothesis because the Cowboys picked Tashard Choice in the fourth round. He's a traditional runner who has a chance to be pretty good. His selection, in my mind, makes the Felix Jones pick less of an issue.
Glad to hear everything is working out for Dawk's family. With a daughter that's now 10 weeks old, I can imagine just how hard everything was for him last year. Good news.

Wow...loved the Roy Williams article.

Not too sure who Annie Duke is, but how did the Fightin Phils of '93 not make it in there?
That was a gimme.
