Ok, you have to admit, this was pretty good:
And of course, the biggie: how do they handle the three CBs? I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see a "slash" put up there.
Thanks to reader johnnyshaka for posting the link to the new chart on PE.com. Check that out. Scroll down a bit ... a little further ... past the linebackers ... and there it is:
Not too shabby. And in merely alphabetical order, I'm sure.
As for the rest of the predictions:
- Winston Justice will only be listed as the first backup at right tackle, not both positions
- Avant and Baskett the #2s, Jackson and Lewis the #3s
- Davis, Lawton, Collins
- Andrews will still have his spot
- Parker, Abiamiri (why create controversy now)
- Reed ahead of Demps (Quintin #2 doesn't need any more confidence)
- Klecko/Laws and Reagor/Kimo
In order:
- Yes on this one, but the Eagles always like to fill out the early charts with different names, even if putting one guy at two positions better reflects reality. In this case, though, I think the reality is that King Dunlap has more of a future at LT than Winston Justice does. That's not going to bode well for my other predictions about Justice that you can can go Google yourself.
- Bzzzzt. Michael Gasperson is listed ahead of DeSean Jackson. This despite the fact that if you think Gasperson has any chance of making this team ahead of Jackson, I've got some "covered parking" "at" the Linc you might be interested in "leasing."
- Yes, but not much of a surprise.
- You know Andy's rule -- starters don't lose their jobs due to injuries or diagnosis of clinical depression.
- No surprise.
- Yes. Demps being who he is, though, he probably recognized immediately the mind game Andy Reid was playing and this only made him more confident in his abilities.
- Yes -- the coaches have been really impressed with Klecko all camp and he's fortunate because what they need from that position -- penetration and pass rush -- he might just be able to provide. With the trio of Patterson, Bunkley and Laws, the Eagles don't really need another guy who can be stout against the run.
Other observations:
- No Jerome McDougle. Anywhere. He's even behind Bryan Smith.
- Ditto on Tony Hunt. I know. Shocking.
- %$@#! &!$#^#@
- Mike McGlynn is ahead of Mike Gibson. Which is great because I so can tell our two mid-range white offensive linemen draft picks named 'Mike' apart.
- By my count, Andy Studebaker is the 8th linebacker on the depth chart. Maybe he should send Jim Johnson some more YouTube videos.
- On that note, Vegas just nosed Studebaker ahead of Smith for "guy most likely to suffer a 'stinger' during the four preseason games."
- Reed at FS, Considine at SS ... doesn't that seem backwards? Not that it matters since they all play all the positions.
- Darren Howard is still listed as the backup long-snapper. I think we might want to consider another backup plan there.
A few observations:
1) I was very pleasantly surprised to see King Dunlap listed as second string - I hadn't seen anything written about him and thought that he was going to wash out as an unmotivated talent. Perhaps working for a living has motivated him to perform to his abilities.
2) While I have sympathized in the past with McDougle – he’s lucky to be alive after what happened – this definitely is his “put up or shut up” year. So it unfortunately looks like, despite reading some good things about him this year, he’s on his way out to oblivion, to be remembered only when recalling high-draft-pick busts (Mike Mamula anyone?).
3) G Cobb said that Studebaker looked “overmatched” in practice. So much for “YouTube” as a talent resource (can you say “digitally enhanced”)!
4) Might Moats actually survive once again due to Hunt being buried way deep in Andy’s doghouse?
5) Gasperson better print out a copy listing him as third string to hang on his wall, so he can gaze at it when he’s back on the practice squad at the start of the season.
6) Can you imagine the sight of Darren Howard trying to snap the ball to Sav Rocca for an Akers field goal? I certainly don’t want to! Forget McNabb, Dorenbos is the one guy the Eagles can ill afford to get injured this year!

I'm glad to see Dunlap is likely to make the team, too. Always good to see those late-round picks pan out.
I'll be shocked if they don't find a way to replace Dorenbos with a position player. Sure, it's an important job, but it's also a big waste of a roster spot.
I guess Hunt is blowing his chance to be the short-yardage back. I suppose they could give the ball to Davis (bwah-ha-ha), but it looks like a lot of Buckhalter and a bunch of shovel passes on the goal line again.

Sort of a tangent here, but I feel bad for Mamula. He's used far too often as an example of who you shouldn't draft. If the Eagles hadn't traded away picks to move up for him, people wouldn't see him the same way. He did average 6 sacks a year and 41 tackles. Those are not exactly terrible numbers for a DE. Certainly better than our FA bust Jevon Kearse.
Anyway, I digress. From what I've seen in TC footage and me being there, Dunlap needs time to work on his footwork. I'm a little troubled by the fact that we have several rookies who will more than likely be counted on to be starters if someone goes down. So cross your fingers that no one gets hurt.

That's where you have to take these early depth charts with a grain of salt. If the first game were tomorrow and Tra Thomas got hurt, the odds are much better that Justice or Herremans would move over there first.

Exactly. Just because King is listed at #2 right now doesn't mean anything regarding the future of the tackle positions. I wouldn't be surprised to see Herremans and Andrews (minus any more depressing revelations) at the two spots next year, with Jean-Gilles taking one guard spot and Justice, Mike & Mike competing for the other one.
