You Knew This Was Coming

Five things that didn't suck about tonight's game:

  1. The final score.
  2. The defense.
  3. DeSean Jackson.
  4. Sav Rocca.

And #5, Tony F-in' Hunt:

Comments

Now I see what you're talking about with Hunt. He ran with authori-TAY.

Can't feel good to be Ryan Moats right now.

Liked the way the second unit competed. Really, for the past couple of years its been serious amateur hour when the subs come in, but this year we seem to have some depth.

Still nervous about the special teams -- are we ever going to get someone who can return kick offs? But another decent showing from the #2's.

A couple of things:
1) When you do the rewind, please let us know exactly who it was dropping the ball on McNabb - one account I just read said at least 6 drops in total. Plus, how many might be due to the rain?
2) The stat sheet says Booker had 3 KR for a total of 20 yards, with a long of 8 yards. Please tell me that's a very bad typo!
3) I guess we now know ONE play that'll never be run again - Sav's attempted shuttle pass (it's already posted on YouTube).

The rain was a factor, but those drops were terrible. The receivers wore gloves, then they took them off (for the series that featured drops by both Curtis and Jackson), then they put that back on again.

Booker's to-date inability to catch the football is somewhat unnerving considering how last year's season opener went.

Westbrook, Lewis and Jackson all dropped one, Curtis dropped two and I can't remember who was the sixth. Maybe Booker or maybe Lewis dropped two. All-in-all, it was an ugly night for the WRs.

Is it too late to fire a coach? Rory Segrist has to go.

If you have the game DVR'd and plan on looking again, make sure you focus on Mikell.

The dude was everywhere last night. He was making plays in zone, reading Delhomme. And he was a force at the line of scrimmage in run support.

Up until this game I wasn't too sure about him, but after last night I'm completely sold on him as an NFL starter. He was a beast.

Bradley was also everywhere. And the front 7 didn't get sucked in the middle this game.

So did you spooge your pants when Hunt made that run?

That was pretty awesome.

6th thing that didn't suck: Todd Herremans at LT. It looked to me like he shut down Julius Peppers in the first half -- and Peppers is one of the best ends in the league.

I saw a fast movement off the snap and great technique, and he was usually one-on-one. I don't know run-blocking as well, so it was hard to see how he did.

Derek, would love to read your thoughts on this in the rewind. By the way, I love your site. You have the best Eagles analysis by far.

Derek,

Since I'm making requests, a couple more things I'd love your take on (since I don't trust what Spadaro has to say).

1. Darren Howard. Spadaro said he's been "just killing people" all camp. But I haven't heard his name in two preseason games. Is he even playing?

2. Dawkins. He hits like someone 40 lbs heavier and always has. He's an animal and everyone is high on him since he knocked out Muhammed to save a touchdown. But can he still run? 'cuz that's what the concern was from last game. If he had gotten to Muhammed sooner, he could have hit the ball instead of the man.

All I could think about when Hunt broke into the open field was, "This has totally made Derek's night."

Though what I actually said was, "GODDAMMIT DESEAN, BLOCK SOMEBODY."

I swear I could hear you yelling when Hunt broke free...

I agree Herremans looked good on Peppers. Def excited to get Andrews back. Booker dude catch the ball. Asante's fine, how sick would that have been to pick that first ball instead of knock it down. Did anyone catch the Lito missed tackle on the 10 or so yard run by Carolina. It was before his INT. The thing with Lito now is every play I'm going to be like "I wonder if Asante would've made that play?". He's going to have to really play well to even look like he's holding his own out there, but that's probably a good thing.
