Tape Delay

Good ole fashion butt whipping. The usual suspects to blame, Zorn out-coaching AR, red zone offense horrible, JJ having no clue how to adjust to stop the run. (sidenote: how much would Abiamiri have helped on those outside runs that beat us all day?)

Anyone else notice that in a good amount of games, AR seems to have a brilliant opening drive game plan and it (usually) works brilliantly. Then, unless we're playing a team like the Rams, our offense cannot consistently get first downs to save their life. I've long thought that Andy was one of the worst coaches in the league in making halftime adjustments (if he even does), but now it seems like that philosophy applies to anything after the first quarter.

Bottom line is they're not the team we all thought (and hoped) they were. 2 games back of 2 (maybe 3) teams for the wild card already.

It also doesn't help when receivers consistently drop 1st down converting passes.

Those drops weren't just bad today, they were "cut each of you immediately" bad. It was an abomination.

This was a tale of two games. Before the David Akers kick, and after. Unfortunately, the game after was a lot longer. Before hand, we saw the Eagles that tease us into thinking they're a team of destiny; everything worked, everyone contributed, there was no answer. After, we crumbled. And that's an understatement. No first downs for most of the game, and a defense that was good except when it counted. I think the reason why annually people question AR's career is, how can a team so good be so bad? It's not like every game is a struggle to keep up; when the Eagles click, no one, and I mean no one, can compete. But one little thing switches momentum and all of a sudden they reek.

I mean this sincerely -- at this point, putting Greg Lewis on the field for anything other than special teams is a fire-able offense.

Who routinely plays their fifth wide receiver? It makes no sense to me.

There were more reasons we lost today than Lewis, but that doesn't change the fact that he routinely hurts this offense when he's counted on to make a play.

What a putrid game. After the stomach punch that was last weekend, this was a belt to the kidneys.

At least the Phillies don't suck.

offensive play calling is horendous. no power back has hurt us since duce took off. for the love of god control clinton portis. I know santana moss has hurt us in the past, but we're pretty damn good deep, so take away the redskins bread and butter, the run. I agree greg lewis is annoying but he has made big plays and I don't mind him in the rotation. Where was desean jackson in the offensive scheme. We've got two explosive playmakers, jackson and westbrook. they should be active every snap. they will create with the ball in their hands and will demand the attention of the defense when the ball isn't in their hands. a little deception, a little flare, give us something in the playcalling. We never, NEVER, have a complete game offensive scheme. Always bursts of productivity and then nothingness. Nothingness is unacceptable with the weapons we have. Mcnabb, roll out, create something, make the defense adjust. Very predictable offensive playcalling. Jim Johnson is awsome. The best in the business. He always gives us a chance to walk but the offense doesn't do its job way too often. Whats up with david akers???? If you take a look at the schedule, its simple to discern that we're an extreme longshot for a wildcard spot. The NFC east rules but we're in big trouble. Welcome back reggie brown. Still not a great #1 but a big help. Come back Kevin Curtis please. We need everybody healthy and Mcnabb spreading it around. I think we're screwed, but its still early, things could happen.

Not sure they were playing well enough for it to matter... but just like last week, I'm pretty sure Bunkley and Patterson were out of the game on a critical running play. This time, 3rd and goal from the three on the 'Skins final TD.

I misprogrammed my DVR, so I'm not certain of that.

Is it possible that there's a coach Wipple element to what's going on here? The first series is pre-programmed, and it's imaginative and unusual. After that, they sink into a predictable, obvious offense. Could it be that Whipple is involved in the first set of plays that is designed over the course of the week, but NOT involved in play-calling during the game?

Cheer up guys. Football Outsiders will have some numbers later in the week that shows the Eagles are better than your lying eyes.

great team. no killer instinct.

There were pretty much problems at every position this week - but one thing has been sticking out to me over the last few weeks. This is a casual observation, but it seems like our CBs tend to perform well when they're up against the WR pre-snap, but they're lousy when they're giving a 7-8 yard cushion. Last week CHI's WRs were maneuvering well to get behind our corners, and this week it seemed like they were getting beaten underneath in the short passing game for first down yardage. I wonder if I'm just imagining things... but if not, I wonder why we don't play up against the WRs more often.

I think what you're seeing is that JJ always picks his poison. Against Pittsburgh, he left open to deep pass and was determined to stop the run. Chicago similar. Against Dallas, he was determined to stop Barber at first, but then had to adjust when TO was killing.

In this game, he didn't want to give up the deep ball to Moss. So he left open the running game a bit, figuring that couldn't beat us by itself.

... Guess he didn't count on our pathetic offensive production.

Look, the defensive coaching is fine. We can win with JJ. Can we win with Andy and Marty's bland offense? I don't think so. They need to fix that fast.

Pretty simple now: It's put up or shut up time.
They need to win the next 4 games - first against 3 bad teams (SF, ATL, SEA) to get back to a respectable 5-3 record, then against the Giants to prove that they can actually beat an NFC East team. Then we're back in it.
But lose ANY of the next 4 (esp. the Giants game) and you can kiss the season goodbye, unless something absolutely disasterous happens to Dallas/NY/Wash.
This may be the beginning of the end of an era - not a great thought for a Monday morning.

And Westie's banged up even more...looks like he's got some busted ribs now to go along with is gimpy ankle.
