Ravens Open Thread

UPDATE:  I was playing with this this morning and it's way too buggy to use now.  So please continue to shout across comments as per usual.

TypePad has upgraded its commenting platform and -- thanks to a notification from Tom about it -- I've signed up for the beta.  It's got new features like user profiles you can use across sites, thumbnails, blahblahblah, but the cool thing is that it now allows threaded comments.

So rather than having to say, "I'm responding to that guy three posts up, no, the other one," you can just hit reply and have it appear underneath.

Welcome to state of the art for 2007, people.  Enjoy the new power responsibly.

Do we have to play the Bengals?

Wasn't it painful enough the first time around?

Fair point :)

I guess I just thought the rule was that if you tied one week, you had to play again the next.

From GCobb:
"John Czarnecki of Foxsports.com reports that Brent Celek will start in place of LJ Smith, and Akeem Jordan will start in place of Omar Gaither."

Wow.

It's funny that he sandwiches that news around a post saying Reid refuses to call anybody out for poor performance.

I wonder if anyone else will be playing more this week than usual.

Derek:

You don't need to type in your real email address - just typing a quick fake one (jlkhkh@aol.com, for instance) works just fine :)

However, you do have to retype your name every time - before, there was a "smart memory" built-in and all I had to do was type in the fist letter - "E" - and my "Eagles Fan in San Fran" handle would automatically come up.

The "preview" leaves much to be desired - it's basically the same-sized box - you can't see your whole comment at once like you were able to with the old version.

Ah, "progress."

Jordan's first effort on a running play didn't seem to suggest he'd be stouting that part of the defense up.

Jackson stayed in after the punt return. Don't think we've seen that all season either.

Um, ok, Jordan's getting killed. Seriously, what's up with this?

Wow, 5 carries by their FB in a row!
I do see that he has had 10+ carries in 5 of their 10 games this year.

So much for the "no huddle" as a way to jump-start the offense.

We're not getting any help: In the game I'm able to watch (Dallas-Niners), Niners just got jobbed down by the goal-line by the refs and had to settle for a FG instead of TD. Niners 3, Dallas 0.

That play felt like the season in a nutshell.

Third and one? Let's just chuck it up, see what happens.

Sorry about the bugs. Seemed to work fine on my site. Maybe a Sunday isn't the day for Derek to be experimenting.

Hey Spadaro, did McNabb trust his wide receiver to make a play enough on that one?

First one to score, wins.

Good: Playcallers more aggressive about trying to get the ball downfield.

Bad: Isn't working.

Another week, another ridiculously crappy rule decision against the Eagles.

I think Reid is arguing that we had the ball when the second foul occurred. so WE should keep the ball.

And I think he's right.

Did anyone see a personal foul? They didnt replay it.

So the Ravens lateral the ball, the Eagles recover, and because the lateral was illegal, they get to keep the ball?

Considine is the anti-Greg Lewis.

Rather than showing up once a game to make a play, he shows up once a game to make a NotPlay.

Nice pass interference, too, Sean.

Thorin, exactly. That's exactly the call.

Of course, we still haven't seen:

1) The personal foul.
2) Who had the ball at the time of the personal foul.

DUDE THE WALL ACTUALLY BLOCKED SOMEONE.

You would believe me if I said that I was typing a Demps return for a TD? Right?

You guys see 43 flop in the middle of the field to try to draw a flag?

Nice soccer move, wuss.

Thats gonna bother Harbaugh.

He got hit before he started moving his arm forward. Of course, I'm sure there's some bogus rule clarification that will make that not matter. Probably give the Ravens a free first down too.

Of course, so if you're getting sacked, just heave the ball three feet forward and the refs will bail you out.

Also, Considine is so invisible on the field, even the refs don't see when he commits obvious penalties.

How f'ing stupid is Andy Reid, letting 20 seconds go off the clock before calling TO?

The way our offense looks, I thought it was a good move. Of course, I wouldn't have thrown on first down either.

Raven have just enough of a rookie QB and average offense to allow the Eagles to win.

BTW nice timeout call by Reid, a quicker decision and they have more time here.

I have to say, last week it looked like everyone played badly and that made it hard for McNabb to do anything. This week looks more like McNabb just isn't playing well.

Odds of Kolb in 2nd half? two starters benched before the game, some horrible Mcnabb play (both those deep routes were open and misthrown)

I think 4 to 1 against. Thoughts?

Mercifully, I am missing this riveting action.
I do see that McNabb has an unspeakable QB rating of 13.2 for the half.
On the bright side, it looks like he won't have to answer questions about rule book this week.
I also see that Buck has 2 carries for 16 yards - I guess AR decided that's not very productive, compared to BWest's 7 carries for 12 yards.
How many days 'till pitchers and catchers again?

And there he is.

So now that the "He throws it too hard" excuse is gone, to what will the WRs attribute their drops?

A game late, it's Kolb! Finally, some kind of statement by Reid. It may not work, but we have to give the guy credit for rattling the cages.

You can really see Westbrook's issues when he runs right. He can't plant and go.

WOW - Looks like McNabb has been officially thrown under the bus by AR.
11/23/08: The end of an era.

It's not a statement. It's just based on what he's seeing on the field.

Seeing Kolb out there is breaking my heart.

These refs suck. That's so blatantly pass interference.

Thank you Baldy, for noticing one.

WOW I really thought 4-1 against was generous. I shoulda gone with my gut.

I love McNabb as a QB and a player. I have, no shit, written poetry about why I'm a fan of Mcnabb as the Eagles QB. (I'm the literary type, what can i say?)

Having said all that, this is not McNabb being thrown under the bus. This game, after the coach called the team out, McNabb had it coming. I hate to see it, but it's deserved.

And still, i feel like the refs are hosing the Eagles. Asante picked, Ravens big play... Sometimes the team that gets the breaks just fucking wins.

OUCH! I'm gonna have to live with this -10 on Donovan in my FFL, huh? Fuck me, shoulda started Eli.

Geez, another terrible call.

Who looks worse today, the Eagles offense, the Ravens offense, or the zebras?

Wait, McNabb is out. Why haven't all the other problems magically been fixed?

However the team was supposed to react when Reid benched Donny, it aint workin. These guys are falling apart out there, and Kolb looks like a rookie playing against one of the leagues most intense defenses... which, in fairness, he is.

Flacco appears to have 40 family members in the stands and seven wearing striped shirts.

Get AJ up in the bullpen. LOL.

wow when did mcnabb turn white? int's are indentical

I would think he would run the ball more to take some pressure off Kolb but are they even capable of doing that?
