I'm on the road too, going to try watching via NFL.com and hook my laptop up to an HD TV. Keep your fingers crossed.

Raise your hand if you called the shovel pass.

Boy, it feels like the Cardinals are playing some sort of prevent defense...but it ain't preventin' nothin'.
Posted by: johnnyshaka | November 27, 2008 at 09:07 PM
Holding?? Right...
Posted by: johnnyshaka | November 27, 2008 at 09:22 PM
How do you forget to cover Westbrook? Aren't the cardinals supposed to be good?
Posted by: Derek | November 27, 2008 at 09:25 PM
Would have been quicker for the refs to just goev them the seven points.
Posted by: Derek | November 27, 2008 at 09:40 PM
So....
MacNabb blows up and plays amazing once the season is over and the games are meaningless.
Didn't that happen last year as well?
Posted by: Non Hippo | November 27, 2008 at 09:48 PM
Hm, Eagles seem a little "motivated" tonight... Okay, I'll shut up.

nothing they could find to call on that second conversion attempt?
Posted by: Derek | November 27, 2008 at 10:35 PM
No wonder the cards suck. They have all our old players.
Posted by: Derek | November 27, 2008 at 10:42 PM
"So....

Uhm, I wouldn't say McNabb is the only one playing "amazing" as the O-Line, receivers, and Westbrook have all shown up as well.
Posted by: johnnyshaka | November 27, 2008 at 10:55 PM
Demps! sighting on defense.
Posted by: Derek | November 27, 2008 at 11:06 PM
Pretty sweet commercial from Reid too.
Posted by: Derek | November 27, 2008 at 11:08 PM
Lito sure is justifying his high opinion of himself tonight, isn't he? He should definitely be starting over Brown.
Posted by: Eric | November 27, 2008 at 11:16 PM
So, when they "show up" they're a machine... when they don't "show up" they're mediocre.
So why don't they show up to every game? Being a fan of the Eagles is just absolutely mind-boggling.
Seriously, you never know which team is going to show up on any given week. Crazy.
Posted by: Soups | November 27, 2008 at 11:52 PM
Not to be negative, but I kind of expected this (not the blowout though). Arizona has only won 2 times away from home in the past 2 seasons (St. Louis and San Fran) and their defense is average.
Sure, we can say well why didn't they do this against the Bengals, but I think you can probably still point that at the coaches and why the team wasn't as motivated the past 2 weeks.
Posted by: Eric | November 27, 2008 at 11:55 PM
"No wonder the cards suck. They have all our old players."
As we learned in the last post, the Eagles are a net exporter of talent. Good, bad or indifferent was not specified. A nice win but I want to see something against the rest of the NFC first.

MJG is done for the season with a broken ankle.
Posted by: | November 28, 2008 at 02:47 AM
what wrong with yall r yall serious /they won the game /everybody played well /let move on to the next game /hippo and which i guess ur fat and cant catch a pass or throw one haha/we still in playoff hunt/know the facts before u blog damn faggots
Posted by: kevin m | November 28, 2008 at 03:43 AM
Yeah, Kevin M, lets move on to the next game when they come out inexplicably flat and McNabb refuses to scramble, throws every pass in the dirt, the receivers drop balls all over the field, the run game goes backward, and the defense is little a leaky bucket.
Playing great in one game is no accomplishment. Like Reid said, you're only as good as your last play.
Posted by: Soups | November 28, 2008 at 07:39 AM
Well, Soups, those last plays were pretty horrible, eh? Ya I hate it when the Eagles ACTUALLY win. Let's all mope around and act like God owes us something. It's not like the Phillies didn't win anything. Let's all be pessimistic assholes cuz the Eagles no longer win the NFC East every year. Sweet Baby Jesus, hate to sound cheesy, but some of you's need to be a little more thankful this time of year. You COULD live in Cleveland.
Posted by: Sundar | November 28, 2008 at 01:54 PM
I just wanna say that I don't think Andy is getting enough credit for the move he made last week....matter of fact; it appears as though he is being denigrated more than anything for the benching.
I have one question for the "experts" out there who agree with the likes of Deion and Jamie Dukes; "Who the hell is ultimately responsible for Donovan's motivation in that game?" And please, don't tell me that the answer is "Donovan." Where has he been for most of the year?
Posted by: bigmyc04 | November 28, 2008 at 02:04 PM
That footprint on Donovan's ass is strangely the same size as Andy's shoe size....hmmmmm....
Posted by: bigmyc | November 28, 2008 at 02:07 PM
>> Well, Soups, those last plays were pretty horrible, eh? Ya I hate it when the Eagles ACTUALLY win.
Hm, there seem to be two kinds of Eagles fans: (1) Those who see the Eagles and McNabb "show up" to the big games and are satisfied and willing to accept the games when the team comes out flat and out-of-rhythm, and (2) those that see the Eagles and McNabb "show up" to the big games and therefore expect to see it each weekend.
This is football, and these guys make MILLIONS of dollars. Don't give me sh*t because I expect them to be (more) consistent. I don't expect them to win every game... but I sure as hell expect them to come out motivated to play to their potential.
McNabb and the Eagles played like crap again the Bengals and Ravens. Reid lit a fire under their asses and wonder of wonders they came out and played great. Somethings wrong with this team's ability to stay focused and motivated.
You're going to tell me I'm out of line for expecting them to show up to every game of the year?
Posted by: Soups | November 28, 2008 at 04:26 PM
Well, soups, you said it. It is a loser mentality to be "fine" with it when the Eagles lose. I don't care what anyone says. In the words of Herm Edwards, "Hello, you PLAY to WIN the GAME.
The dum dums who attack the real fans for expecting our football to show up every week are basically small minded simpletons (you know who you are).
We don't owe Donovan anything more than he owes us....the same goes for the Big Red one. That effort offensively vs. Cincy was abominable. Who could possible defend it?
If you think you are one of those people, I have news for you; you are full of crap and obviously one massive a-hole.
Posted by: bigmike | November 28, 2008 at 04:43 PM
Okaaaaay let's take it down a notch.
Posted by: Derek | November 28, 2008 at 05:24 PM
Really? Soups your whole original post was pessimistic for the future. Then you followed that by saying "you're only as good as your last play." See, I'm a logical thinker. When I read someone who is totally trashing a season before it's mathematically over and then conclude by saying you're only as good as your last play...Ahem, When WE WON OUR LAST PLAY! But what am I supposed to expect from people who like to shut the door on a season in week 13. I guess I'm not a "real" fan cuz I still have faith in the best coach-qb combo in Eagles history. And if they don't win, then I'll get over it cuz I'm not a pessimistic asshole who makes Philly fans look bad.
Posted by: Sundar | November 29, 2008 at 12:29 AM
Talk about not understanding the context of an argument. Those who don't get it always branch off onto a tangent to make themselves feel right. It's human. I forgive you. I am not even going to respond to all this "real" fan bullshit cuz anybody who pisses and moans after a win over a decent team is useless to me.
Posted by: Sundar | November 29, 2008 at 12:33 AM
I guess, sundar, that you're one of those warm and fuzzy, "a win is a win guys" huh? Well, if you're the Detroit Lions or the Cincinnati Bengals (although, their mantra these days is, "a tie is a tie") or the Kansas City Freakin Chiefs that logic is fine. We are the Eagles' phanbase. We expect more because we know our players are capable of it.
Make sense? It should. You talk of being mathematically in the playoff race and you'd be correct....that's almost like saying that I have just as good of a chance at becoming president in 2012 because I have a few thousand dollars to spend on my campaign....
Let's get real. After this season and the almost identically lame one of last year, somebody's got to rattle the cages. I guess that wouldn't be you.
Posted by: bigmyc04 | November 29, 2008 at 02:56 AM
Sundar, my point about "you're only as good" was about a mentality, not about the Eagles play against the Cardinals.
What I meant was one could watch the Cardinals game and think "yes, we won, awesome," or one could watch and think "yes, we won, awesome... but why couldn't we play like that against the Bengals and the Ravens, and all the other lesser teams over the years? Why don't we always come to play?"
My point was about being satisfied with inconsistent play as long as we win every once in awhile, or being unsatisfied when we fail to show up and expecting more, expecting a Super Bowl win.
Posted by: Soups | November 29, 2008 at 08:43 AM
Well, my friends, you both had unrealistic expectations for this season. The chances of this '08 team going to the Super Bowl was slim to begin with. Maybe I am warm and fuzzy, but that's got nothing to do with this. This team is in transition and if you couldn't see that from the start then I'm sorry. Too many players over the hill mixed in with too many players just getting started. So, I'm going to enjoy the wins, especially against a winning team (even if it is the NFC West). You wanna compare me to a lions, chiefs, bengals fan..fine. I expect more too, it's frustrating, but I'm not gonna be a wet blanket after a win. This bitch and moan attitude when the team is clearly rebuilding is preposterous. Get over yourselves.
Posted by: Sundar | November 29, 2008 at 01:38 PM
Sundar, none other than Sports Illustrated called an Eagles/Pats Super Bowl at the start of the season. Please don't say I'm crazy for thinking they could (should) have beaten both the Bengals and the Ravens.
I know this Eagles time has the potential to be in the playoffs this year. I'm disappointed and upset that they are in the position that they are in. I think a large portion of their bad play -- not all of it, of course -- has to do with lack of motivation and focus. Sad.
Posted by: Soups | November 29, 2008 at 02:04 PM
I guess you never heard of the SI curse. What you should do is pay a little more attention to learning the team on your own than paying attention to SI. That same predictor (DR. Z) predicted the Vikes to win it all in the summer and then changed it. Should they have beat the Bengals? Sure...The Ravens in Baltimore? That's asking a little more....What you need to do is homework. This is the problem with the Philly fans who make the rest of us look bad. You think with your heart and not your head
Posted by: Sundar | November 29, 2008 at 02:18 PM
Do you know how many years in this decade that "experts" have predicted a pats/eagles super bowl? More than half...Look at the team, bud. Pay more attention to a guy like Derek who runs this site. Your rhetoric is misleading...When you say you're only as good as your last play...you're not talking about a game 2 weeks ago...you're talking about the LAST game. Clarify yourself better....Also, the Eagles COULD still go to the playoffs and could still win it. The Wild Card has been instrumental in SB wins over the years. And this is my point! The people here who are trashing the team after a win, after still being mathematically in it..are ridiculous. The Giants had a similar record as we do last year. If they pull off a run like that then you'll be sitting there with egg on your face
Posted by: Sundar | November 29, 2008 at 02:23 PM
Who am I kidding? Even if that miracle happened, you would probably be too stubborn to remember being such a wet blanket after a win over a team we could see in the playoffs.
Posted by: Sundar | November 29, 2008 at 02:25 PM
>> If they pull off a run like that then you'll be sitting there with egg on your face
Why would I have egg on my face? I'm the one arguing that the Eagles haven't been playing to their potential. You're the one arguing that my expectations are too high. Jeez.
Let's just agree to disagree. I think the Eagles can and should be more consist -- they need to show up to every game, not just the high profile games.
You seem to believe that Eagles fans should be content with a few great games a year, apparently because of what the Eagles accomplished 4-5 years ago. As I think that's absurd, we're just gonna have to agree to disagree.
(I think our real bone of contention is that I'm so tired of the inconsistent play, that I am ready to see some big changes made. I'm not satisfied with a few great games or a few good stretches. I want consistency or change.)
Posted by: Soups | November 29, 2008 at 05:08 PM
Personally, consistency is precisely what this team needs, especially since that was a Heckert/Andy benchmark for so long...what happened to it?
Too many Eagle Cheerleader types don't seem to understand that a fan can be critical and still have his team's best interest at heart...heck, that's how anyone or any team ever gets better...It's what the real greats committ to like say, Brian Westbrook. A guy like him can simply go out and dominate the defense yet say to himself, "there's room for improvement." I don't believe Donovan has done that near enough for the last few years...yet, he did it this week and surprise, surprise.
Forgive us for being vested in our favorite team's future....sheesh.
Posted by: bigmyc04 | November 29, 2008 at 07:31 PM
Honestly, we're arguing about different things here, people. All I'm saying is to act pessimistic after a solid win and still being only a game back in the wild card is annoying. Not to the "real" fans or whatever that means but, to the people who still enjoy the game. Not this wet blanket "wah-wah, woes me, we're not the fuckin Patriots dynasty." Get over it, there's only two teams in the league that are consistent. And guess what? That hasn't meant anything in the last 3 years. 2005 SB CHAMP Steelers were 7-4 and 2007 SB CHAMP Giants were 7-4 after week 13. Not to mention that amazing 35 point comeback Peyton had over the Pats in 2006. I mean, were you calling for Charlie Manuel's head when they were down 7 games to the Mets in September, 2007? If so, that's what I mean by egg on your face. You can demand consistency, but all that matters is we're in it. So, get off your high-horse and maintain the PHAITH

I think the fact that every assertion that we are "in it" is qualified by the word "mathematically" is in and of itself a testament to how much anyone real optimism exists.
The fact is,the truth is in between the extreme positions. Reid is right about one thing: its never as bad as it looks, or as good as it looks. This team is what we see: a .500, second-tier team in transition. The question is, who will lead the transition? Who will be here for the turnaround?
