Oh Come On

Did Andy Reid take a dump on Mike Florio's rosebushes?  Or perhaps PFT's creator is just channeling all the agents who use him to do their dirty work (and don't like the Eagles organization)?

Either way, that dude is going certifiably off the reservation right now about the Eagles.  I'm not going to get into all the random, unsourced crap he's throwing out, but I did want to -- again -- highlight the stupidity of this:

During the segment, Angelo Cataldi and company played a clip from coach Andy Reid’s Monday press conference, during which beat writer Mark Eckel lobbed an oversized softball to the ten-year head coach regarding whether he knew that a regular-season game ends in a tie after the 15-minute overtime sesssion.

Reid whiffed.

Though Reid never expressly admitted that he didn’t know about ties, he never says that he did.  Based on the exchange, reasonable minds could differ on whether Reid was aware of this fairly fundamental component of the sport of pro football.

McNabb’s legacy already is permanently stained by his admitted ignorance and the nonchalant manner in which he confessed it; if it turns out that Reid didn’t know, he should be fired on the spot.

Ok, one more time, very ... slowly ... now.

Look.  At.  The.  Play.  By.  Play.  (Convenient link here.)

Scroll all the way down.  Notice how Reid used both his OT timeouts right before the two-minute warning, to preserve as much time as possible for his offense when they got the ball back.  (Notice as well how the Bengals helped by throwing that incomplete pass.)

Reading PFT these days is like studying for an exam.  I have to know the material, but there's zero joy in doing it.

Florio is truly someone who revels in the failure of others.

It would be more fun to read if he was a little funny, but in his attempts at humor he comes of as an arrogant, nerdy lawyer.

Which, of course, he is.

Of course, AR could have thought that he got new TOs with each imaginary OT period. And I admit that I was surprised watching the press conference on Monday that he didn't just answer the question -- you know, until I considered Reid's seething hatred and disdain for Eckel.

That Angelo Cataldi and Mike Florio can't understand (or choose not to acknowledge) that Andy Reid would be an idiot to let Mark f***ing Eckel quiz him on basic NFL rules tells you all you need to know about those two a-holes.

Also, didn't they throw a hail mary on the last play? Or am I wrong?

This story is annoying and not at all relevant to the Eagles current issues. I like PFT during the offseason when there's a dearth of coverage, but Florio often seems to adopt pet issues that aren't very relevant.

I'd think the hail mary pass would be more indicative than the fact that they called the 2 timeouts. My reasoning because: taking the 2 timeouts is just like taking 2 timeouts at the end of the 4th quarter to give yourself time to win. If one does so in the 4th quarter when the score is tied, that doesn't mean they are doing it because there is no OT.
But the fact that they didn't do a hail mary pass in the last 8 seconds of the 4th quarter vs OT is more indicative IMHO.

p.s: Btw, good job Derek overall with the blog. I am a silent lurker around your blog.

Wow, this guy has a future at NBC given the integrity of that article. That any NFL coach would not know how overtime works is such a massive statement, you had better have Donovanesque evidence backing you up.

Pathetic, pathetic stuff.

I find Floria/PFT entertaining as hell. I could care less if he's carrying water for agents or any other disgruntled employee. He freely admits hes not a journalist and its not as if that profession isnt filled with shills and unpaid PR assistants.

Florio was on a tear about Reid a year ago, ending with a long post that Reid must be distracted by his sons' legal issues, and concluding "Reid must go". Pure lobbying for someone(s), or ego trip. So much for reporting rumors.
