Speaking of Playoff Scenarios

It's true, things look a little grim:
The Eagles probably have to go at least 3-1 in their next four games to have a decent chance of making the playoffs. A 2-2 record would leave them at 7-6 and probably force a sweep of their final three games, against Cleveland at home, Washington on the road, and Dallas at home in the season finale. A 10-6 record might be good enough to get in as a wild card.
It might not, and here's why: The Eagles' most winnable remaining games appear to be the three against AFC opponents - Cincinnati, Baltimore and Cleveland. Those wins wouldn't help at all if making the playoffs comes down to a tiebreaker.
At the moment, the Eagles have a 4-4 conference record and a much-publicized 0-3 record in the division. If the Eagles were to win the three games against AFC opponents and split two of the four others, they would be left with a 6-6 conference record, which probably wouldn't be good enough to win a tiebreaker with another NFC team.
This is all on point, but remember, it was less than a month ago when we were all bemoaning the fact that the Eagles could neeeeeeeeever catch up in the division because they were so far behind everyone else. Well that's still true for the Giants, but the Cowboys and Redskins have come way back since then.
Things change fast in the NFL.
No, I don't find it any consolation either.
