So, The Giants...

Posted by Derek

Temperature taking time -- how are you all feeling about this match-up?  Opening line is four points, which honestly feels very respectful given the road and bye factors.

Things I like:

  1. Eagles smacked the Giants pretty good last time around.
  2. Still no Plaxico Burress.
  3. McNabb continues to look very good.
  4. No possibility of a look-past effort.
  5. Divisional opponent, so anything can happen.
  6. It's on Sunday so no conflict with the wedding I'm going to on Saturday night.

Things I don't:

  1. A lot of factors played into that last Eagles win.
  2. The Giants had practically two weeks off and Brandon Jacobs should be very, very fresh.
  3. I could be crazy, but Westbrook didn't look like he was at top speed yesterday, even realizing that most of the day he was getting buried in the backfield.
  4. The Eagles did a poor job with the Minnesota blitz schemes on Sunday*.
  5. Second-round game, so usually the rested, home team wins.
  6. There are games on Saturday too.

* The coaching staff is taking some heat this morning for regularly leaving Tra Thomas alone on Allen yesterday.  I'd have to go back and watch it play-by-play to be sure (and yes, I'd like to do that, we'll see), but keep in mind that if the tight end is on the right (as he usually is in this offense) and the opponent blitzes a bunch of guys on the side opposite from Tra, then the protection is going to have to shift that way, which leaves Thomas alone out there, even if the original plan was to give him help.
