The Best Left Tackle in football
Posted by BountyBowl
Whilst we can probably chalk this up to exuberance and a bit of self-congratulation, Andy Reid didn't hold back in his official statement on Peters (that we've all seen quoted in every article about the trade):
"Jason Peters is the best left tackle in football," said head coach Andy Reid. "He is a powerful and athletic tackle and I have admired his play over the last few years on film. I have always believed that success in the National Football League is derived from the strong play of the offensive and defensive lines. This offseason we have added two young, top-flight offensive linemen in Jason and Stacy Andrews."
I think that actually counts as pretty strong words from Big Red. With Dawk or Westbrook or Dunavin he's willing to toss around phrases like, "Best in the business," but those words usually come with lots of reps and warranties ("I might be biased," "I'm probably a little partial to my guy," etc). If anything, this strikes me as a bit of sales and marketing from the big fella: For the avoidance of doubt, people, this is a Big Deal.
And I'm not going to disagree with that.
(Also, the reference to admiring his play on film sounds vaguely voyeur/ porn-y, but hey, it's Andy Reid's job to watch a lot of video of young people.)
