The Giants Talk Too Much

This is just stupid.  Via Gregg Rosenthal on (the new) PFT:

In an interview with Brandon Tierney on ESPN 1050 in New York (via the Blue Screen), the enjoyably honest Giants running back admitted he's not impressed with the Cowboys starter.

"I don't think he's that good a passer, to be honest with you," Jacobs said.

Jacobs believes that Romo can't survive as a pure pocket passer.  Much of Romo's success comes while improvising on the run.

"I'm not a fan of Tony Romo, no.  Keep him in the pocket, he's not that good. . . . His luck will be gone sooner or later.  If you were to keep Tony Romo in the pocket he's not that effective."

First of all, when it comes to lucky quarterbacks, glass houses, dude.

Second, it's things like this that make it so easy to dislike the Giants.  They talk too much.  Then they drone on and on about "respect," meanwhile never handing it out to anyone else.  (And to be clear, I'm talking about the mouthpieces, like Jacobs and AP -- there are of course plenty of quiet pros in every locker room.)

Third, doesn't this violate some sort of unwritten rule about only talking about the unit you match up against?  I can see the defensive linemen thinking, "Great, thanks man, why don't you come out here and try to keep him in the pocket?"  (Although, give his size, he probably could play some DE.)

Lastly, the charge itself is bogus on the merits.  Romo does just fine in the pocket.  He's arguably more dangerous when he's moving around, but that's just because he's so friggin' good at improvising stuff.  If you put Romo on the Giants, the Eagles would be in some serious trouble.*

* Until week 17 and/or the playoffs.  Then they'd be good.
