Wow, The Birds Really Cleaned Up At These Telly Awards

Posted by BountyBowl

According to PE.com, the Eagles Television Network recently won 15 Telly Awards.  Wow!  15 awards.  That's a lot, right?  I mean, I knew that I was really into watching videos on PE.com, but I had no idea these videos were so respected within the television community.

Moreover, I'll admit that I was little shocked to see content like The Donovan McNabb Show honored with an award.  I mean, I watch The Donovan McNabb Show every week, and even as a loyal viewer and McNabb fanboy, I wouldn't say I was sitting around whinging that not enough people appreciated its unique genius ("I can't believe they canceled Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles!").

So what are these Telly awards that are apparently so fond of our Eagles-related content?  According to the Eagles' site,

The Telly Awards are a national honor and they award the very best local, regional, and cable television commercials and programs, as well as the finest video and film productions. Since 1978, the Telly Awards have been inspiring, promoting, and supporting creativity. The 30th Annual Telly Awards received more than 10,000 entries from all 50 states and five continents. Entries are judged against a high standard of merit and scored on a performance scale. Entries are recognized and awarded as Bronze Winners and, at the very highest, Silver Winners.

Curious fellow that I am, I decided to consult a second source.  Wikipedia was very helpful:

The Telly Award is an award presented by the namesake, New York City-based organization designed to honor outstanding local and regional television commercials and productions, and non-broadcast video productions.

In each category there can be multiple winners (silver) and finalists (bronze). There is no stated limit to the number of winners or finalists in any given category. The Telly Awards web site lists thousands of winners annually. Official documentation provided to winners indicates that 7- to 10 percent of over 13,000 international entries receive Silver Telly Awards and 18- to 25 percent receive the Bronze Telly Award. The official site lists no Bronze winners in any category for any year. [Emphasis mine.]

Huh.  That's funny.  In the description on the Eagles' site, they quote statistics regarding the volume of entries (over 10,000), but forget to share any details on how many entries win (up to 35 percent annually).  That's so weird.

Anyhoo, congrats to all involved at ETN for all their hard work.
