An Unfinished Roster

It's funny to see today's moves announced as the "final" roster cuts. There's nothing final about this.
As expected, the Eagles kept all four QBs. Too many potential trade partners had to be assuming they had a shot at AJ for free. I didn't see the Vick on the exempt list thing coming, but it makes perfect sense as a way to buy some time for a trade.
Same thing with the wide receiver situation. Reggie Brown's cap hit is not insubstantial. Might as well stall some more and see what happens.
As far as moves I didn't like, I really, really don't like seeing just three real defensive tackles on the roster. This isn't a cutdown criticism -- I like Klecko as much as anyone, but I can see why they let him go. He's useful as a rotation guy, but it's hard to plug him in there in a bigger role as an injury replacement. It's more about the guys they started the summer with. Right now, if something bad happens to Patterson or Bunkley (or Laws) we're looking at pulling a body in off the street. I'd much rather see a fourth DT than a seventh WR, come the middle of September.
Sliding outside a bit, six defensive ends is really just a lot of guys. Unless they're going to take Trent Cole off the field a lot more than they have in the past, I just don't see how all these guys are getting snaps. Abiamiri better show something early.
As Les Bowen points out, the 2008 draft class looks a lot less stellar now. It's obviously still early, but Demps and Mays both seem to have blown their giftwrapped starting shots for now. Laws has a permanently tough road ahead of him, not due to anything he does, but because of the guys starting.
I'm not bashing that draft. And it's nice to have an organization that goes with the guys who play the best, not the ones who are drafted the highest. But a little bit of the lustre is gone.
As for the cuts, I like Gaines, Mailei and Myers for the practice squad, if no one else picks them up. Amendola definitely flashed some potential, but when you're carrying seven receivers, it's not like you need to worry about depth. I could also see that Dallas Reynolds kid sticking around.
Oh, and lest we forget ... McNabb, Westbrook, Jackson, Weaver, Peters, Andrews, Andrews, Mikell, Cole, Asante, Sheldon, etc., etc., etc. We should fight the tendency to worry too much about #s 51, 52 and 53 the way we do every year.
