Vick's Humanity

Posted by Derek

I know, I know, opinions are fixed.  Nobody's changing his mind about anything.  The debate is stagnant.  Whatever.

I was still struck by this quote from Vick in Bowen's write-up today:

"I didn't even know what to do with myself," after scoring on a 2-yard run, Vick said. "I always told myself I was going to keep the ball, I was going to hand it to an offensive lineman and spike it. I got up and I just lost it. My mind went blank and I just ran off the field, like nothing had happened. I went through so many different scenarios in my mind. But it was great. It was gratifying to get into the end zone."

"I always told myself I was going to keep the ball [when I was rotting in a jail cell wondering if I'd ever get to play football again]."

"I went through so many different scenarios in my mind [while dreaming about this day as I stared at the bars and the cinder-block wall]."

That was a good run, too.  With all the talk of what he didn't do well last night, we shouldn't lose focus on the fact that what we actually need him to do in the regular season, he did just fine.  Good conversion on that early third-and-one as well.
