Spreading The Wealth

Posted by Derek

We're getting far enough along in the season that we can start to evaluate performance on more than just a game-to-game basis -- with one caveat.  We still don't know what the final roles will be for Brian Westbrook and Kevin Curtis.

Westbrook is probably going to be ok once he gets the cobwebs out.  And although I don't want to call it a blessing in disguise or anything, it's not a terrible thing that he's being forced to keep his legs fresher than in years past.

The return of Curtis seems much less certain.  We could see anything from "done in Philly" to "#3 receiver."  His starting days appear to be over.

Here's this year's passing attack:

What I find interesting is that this team spreads the ball around -- but it's not really "smooth" from week to week.  DeSean has a couple big games, then he goes without a catch.  Maclin explodes that week, then he drops way down before bouncing back.  Westbrook recaptures the magic against Oakland, but doesn't do much the rest of the year.  And no defense is forgetting about Celek any more after those two early big games.

The last two weeks are the first in which Maclin and Jackson both had success at the same time.  And the Giants' game was the first one since New Orleans that three wide receivers really all chipped in (plus they got a nice game from Celek).  It will be interesting to see how this works out going forward.
