Unrelated Concussion Point
Posted by Derek
I know, no one's ready to move on yet. I feel worse this morning than I did last night. But this is a blog, after all, so I have to post these things as they come up.
Bowen has the Westbrook concussion story today. It's just-the-facts-ma'am:
"He felt good during the week," Reid after last night's game. "He practiced during the week. It's a crazy deal ...
"I know this: If he has [headaches], I'm going to go more on the conversative [sic] side and take every precautionary measure possible. I'm not going to stick him out there, even if the tests are positive."
As for Westbrook's prognosis for San Diego, Reid was noncommital: "We'll just see how he does this next week."
With the way these stories go, we can pretty much guarantee that some folks are going to write this week about how the caution the Eagles are showing with Westbrook is a sign of the NFL's newfound appreciation for the dangers of concussions and the first sign that players and teams across the league will be more careful with these types of injuries.
That is, of course, baloney. Westbrook is the rare player who has made his reputation and his money, is pretty headstrong to begin with, and is already staring at his post-career future every day.
That is to say, LeSean McCoy would have played last night. Even if he had to lie about the headaches. There's still a ways to go.
