I Think The Merchandising Department Picked The Wrong Guys

Posted by BountyBowl

In case you haven't yet had a chance to peruse your NFL Shop catalog or dig waaaaay deep into the NFLShop.com web site, I'd like to direct your attention to an exciting merchandising partnership between the NFL and Realtree, a leading maker of outdoor apparel:

Realtree has joined forces with Reebok and the NFL to develop a line of clothing designed especially for those who love to watch a pro game on the field when they’re not hunting or fishing in the field.

The Open Field Collection, a focused collection of hunting and fishing apparel, combines the logos of 32 NFL teams with Realtree camo patterns.

Research conducted by Reebok revealed that there are more than 11 million avid NFL fans who are also frequent participants in hunting and fishing, so combining both passions into one collection seemed like the natural thing to do.

The deal makes sense to me, and it certainly isn't off brand for the NFL and Reebok to pursue a partnership like this one.  What doesn't make sense to me is the two players that Reebok chose for the replica jerseys, DeSean Jackson and Brent Celek:

Perhaps DJACC and Brent Celek are outdoorsmen in their own special ways, but I'm pretty sure that neither of them owns his own hunting company or takes local radio hosts fishing where he discusses his many snake kills and hog hunts.

Folks at Reebok, the correct answers were Trent Cole and Kevin Kolb.  It isn't even like they're obscure players from the bottom of the roster.  They're the best defensive player and the starting quarterback, respectively. And I wouldn't be shocked to hear that Trent Cole had been lobbying for the team to wear those things in a game.

I really hope I see one of these jerseys at a game this year.
