Did I Mention I'm Out Today?

Yeah, the "grandparents" came into town last for a visit the holiday weekend.  Haven't even watched the game yet.  Glad to see no major injuries.

I'll check in at some point when we hear the cuts, but won't be around much the next couple days. ave a great weekend everyone.

Throw AJ A Bone

Ok, so I get why the guy doesn't get to play in any of the preseason games.  But if you're going to use the homepage of PhiladelphiaEagles.com to hype an upcoming U.S. Women's Soccer game, couldn't you at least use his girlfriend in the accompanying picture?

Wait, What?

AJ and Heather are back together?!?!?

People, please try to keep me informed about this sort of important stuff.

Linkage

Frequent commenter Tracer Bullet emailed me last week a story he'd done about the local roller girls league.  It's oh-so-close to out-of-bounds for this blog, but it is a) Philly-focused and b) nominally a sport, so I meant to throw a link up and just forgot when things got a little nuts last week.

The pictures are all pretty tame but the vernacular could be non-work-safe if you have (or are) a somewhat uptight boss.

For What It's Worth

I've never heard of this show, but hey, I'm all about supporting the local theater.

The Philly Fan
Theatre Exile presents a return engagement of its hit show The Philly Fan by Bruce Graham, starring Tom McCarthy, and directed by Joe Canuso.  A one-man tour-de-force in which two-time Barrymore Award winner Tom McCarthy takes audiences on a hilarious journey through the frustrations of the past fifty years of Philadelphia sports.  This production is an in-your-face, tell-it-like-it-is romp through the memories of a hard core fan used to seeing sure-thing victories turn into “oh-my-God-they-blew-it” defeats.

June 10-15 at The Playground at the Adrienne, 2030 Sansom Street.  Tickets are $25 - $30 ($50 for the Opening Night Gala); call (215)922-4462 or visit www.ThePhillyFan.net

Here's the page with reviews / press clippings.

And I think we're all familiar with the four seasons of Philly fans.  Triumphant jubilation goes by so quickly.

For Pete's Sake

Because this seems necessary for some unspeakably stupid reason, here's a general primer on my comments policy:

1.  I don't have a comments policy.  Don't be an ass and there won't be any problems.

2.  If your point can't be made without resorting to insults, it's probably not a very good point.

3.  Unlike most parents, I do care who started it.  This is not the NBA or the NHL.  The initial provocation will be treated much more harshly than the retaliation.

4.  I recognize the commenters who have been coming here for a long time and contributing to the discussion.  Just because you just showed up, it doesn't mean everyone else did.

5.  Finally, I don't have time to deal with crap in the comments.  If you want to call me an idiot, please use the email link above.  Otherwise, just shout at your computer screen.

Have a great weekend, everyone.

Typical PFT

First, PFT's Florio labels Mike Patterson "a bust" in a post purporting to explain how NFL teams were becoming leery of drafting USC guys.  (Which must be why Sedrick Ellis is certain to be there at #19 when the Eagles pick...)

Then after two pages of comments telling him he needs to get his head examined, Florio posts this update:

UPDATE:  Okay, maybe Patterson isn’t a full-blown bust.  We were influenced by his pot charge.

Ah yes.  "Maybe" Patterson isn't a "full-blown bust."  So I guess 57 tackles and four sacks from the DT position just makes one a partial bust.

Atta way to keep that ego in check, dude.

Didn't See That Coming

Before yesterday's game against the Pistons, I think I'd watched 10 minutes of Sixers basketball this season.

I still think anything beyond five games is an achievement, but it was fun to see them play that well.  Especially against that team.

We even get a Bill Lyon special from the game.  Now that's good stuff.
