Please Snyder, Hire Spagnuolo
During the Giants' miraculous two-month run to a Super Bowl title, the rest of the football world learned what Eagles fans already knew -- that Steve Spagnuolo can coach up a defense.
But can he coach a whole team?
The National Football League is littered with coaches who excelled as coordinators but failed when given the top spot. Some were victims of circumstance, some just may not have had what it takes to be the top man, but for whatever reason, success doesn't always follow the promotion. For every Jon Gruden, you'll find a Mike Martz (and a Steve Mariucci (and a Charlie Weis -- HA)), and for every Bill Belichick you'll find a Wade Phillips (and a Gregg Williams).
So here's what we know right now. The hated New York Giants (and yes, they're back to being the hated New York Giants) have a crapload of front seven defensive talent and a coordinator who has them in the perfect scheme. That's bad. The Redskins need a head coach and there's no guarantee that Spags will be able to catch lightning in a bottle the second time around.
I'd rather take the chance.
